Track 0 is an independent, not-for-profit organization serving as a hub to support all those transitioning to a clean, fair and bright future for future generations around the world compatible with the goals set out in the Paris Agreement. We convene leaders and provide strategic research, training, advice, communications and networking support to governments, businesses, investors, philanthropies, communities and campaigns run by civil society.

Track 0’s mission is to translate the globally agreed well below 2ºC/1.5ºC limit on temperature rise set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement into emissions pathways and metrics that can support transformative solutions implementable by everyone. Scientists say we need to reach net zero emissions by around 2050 for a high chance of limiting temperature rise to well below 2ºC/1.5ºC. Track 0 supports countries, companies, cities and individuals that are making a commitment to get to zero emissions through setting concrete emission reduction targets aligned with science.

Phasing out emissions to zero is feasible and supported by the science. This goal is recognised in the Paris Agreement, which mandates everyone to work collectively to decarbonise the global economy by aiming to reach a global peaking of emissions as soon as possible so as to achieve a balance in global emissions in the second half of this century. Scientists agree this means bringing the biggest sources of emissions from fossil fuel combustion and industry down to zero as quickly as possible, starting today.

Track 0’s Values and Goals

Guided by the Science

Our goal is to limit global temperature rise to well below 2ºC/1.5ºC. This means reaching net zero GHG emissions by mid-century – basically by 2050 – in accordance with science and as set out in the Paris Agreement.

PHASE OUT CO₂ EMISSIONS FIRST

We prioritise immediate phase out of CO₂ emissions from energy and industry as fast as possible starting today. CO₂ emissions from agriculture and land use are also important and must be reduced however they cannot displace the need for the energy and industry sectors to go to zero first.

PHASE IN 100% CLEAN ENERGY

We work to support all those working towards the goal of 100% clean renewable energy as part of the energy transition to a clean future. Phasing in clean energy may mean a moratorium on exploration of new fossil fuel reserves and leaving some fossil fuels in the ground.

AMBITION FOR EVERY SECTOR

Gases such as methane, HFCs and emissions of particulates also contribute to climate change and in some cases contribute to air pollution with significant adverse impacts on human health. We therefore want leaders from all sectors to commit to renewable energy and a phase out of other emissions as a way to unify all efforts.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

We want a socially just world with zero poverty and enhanced resilience to climate impacts. Reaching net zero emissions must go hand in hand with equity and fairness to present and future generations, including recognising that climate change is already causing irreversible loss and damage.

ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY

Investing in low carbon opportunities is financially attractive, improves human health, creates secure local jobs and places our economy on a sustainable track for the long run.
